Tips for a good video presentation
The Corona virus has turned all our lives upside down and the DPG meetings can currently only take place online. While many of the participants have already completed an online marathon, others are just starting their first steps. To make your next video presentation a success, here are some tips and tricks!
- Choose a solid-colored top; avoid fabrics with small or distractring patterns. Solid black or white can make it hard for your camera to properly expose your face. If you use a Zoom backround, white and green will make the backround appear on your clothes.
- Don't sit too close to the camera. Position your webcam far enough away to capture your shoulders and your entire face with some room to spare.
- Try to light yourself from the front with soft, indirect light. You can try placing a light with a lampshade in front of you, but behind your webcam or sit facing a window with indirect sunlight.
- Check and see what is behind you and make sure it's not to distracting to your audience. Windows or bright white walls in the background are often a challenge for the webcames. Download our Zoom background to cover whatever is behind you.
- Eye contact is everything when it comes to public speaking and it's no different when it comes to video. Look directly at the camera to connect with your audience.
- It would be goof if you use a microphone or headset that can minimize background noise. Try to minimize sounds in or outside the room and don't forget to turn off your phone ringer!
- Record a test video! Not only to make sure your setup is giving you the look and sound quality you want, but also to practice pesenting in front of a video camera.
- Include numbers on your slides so attendees can reference them when asking questions.
- If you have bandwidth problems, consider turning off the video during your presentation and using only the audio from your computer.
- For those who may be visually impaired, concider describing the details in your presentation.
